A common safety hazard I often encounter in homes from is the improper installation of gas appliance exhaust flues, specifically when they are in contact with combustible materials. Most gas exhaust flues are required to have a minimum clearance of at least one inch from any combustible surfaces. If you notice any materials touching a gas exhaust flue, it’s important to have a qualified professional inspect the situation and take appropriate measures to ensure it meets safety standards. The picture is from an older home with a newer heater installation. The HVAC installer should've known

better than to leave it that way.
