As I inspect homes in La Grange and surrounding areas, I often discover dangerous electrical conditions that the owners are unaware of. A recently inspected home falls into this category.
The wires shown in the photo, outlined by the orange rectangle, are the service entrance wires for this home. These wires carry high voltage and must be positioned at least 10 feet above the ground for safety. In this case, they are significantly lower, creating a serious life-safety hazard.
Homeowners should safely determine (without touching) if their service entrance wires are high enough. If the wires are below 10 feet, it is crucial to have a professional assess and correct their positioning. Since these wires are the responsibility of your electric utility provider, your first step should be to contact them. Under no circumstances should you touch, use a tool to touch, or attempt to handle/adjust these wires yourself.
